Privacy policy

datwordtduur.nl helps you fix your own car. For that we need a few of your details, nothing more. No tracking, no ads, and we never sell your data to third parties.
What data we process
- Account: your email address and an encrypted (hashed) password. We can't see your real password.
- Your car(s): the registration number you enter, plus the public vehicle details that come with it (make, model, year, fuel type).
- Your jobs: the symptom description you type in, the generated diagnosis and your progress through the step-by-step plan.
- Subscription: your plan (free or paid) and your subscription status. We never see your card or bank details, those go straight to our payment processor Stripe.
- Preferences: such as your theme choice (light/dark) and profile type.
What we use it for
To make the app work: generating your diagnosis, remembering your jobs and cars, letting you log in, handling payments and tracking the limit on free diagnoses. That's it.
Who we share data with
- RDW: we send your registration number to the RDW's (the Dutch vehicle authority) open data service to retrieve the vehicle details.
- Google: to generate a diagnosis we send your vehicle details and symptom description to Google. Your name or email address is not included.
- Stripe: handles payments. You share your payment details directly with Stripe, we only store your subscription status.
- Resend: sends our emails, such as the confirmation email on registration and the password reset email. For that we share your email address with Resend; we use their EU region.
- Sentry (error monitoring): if something technically goes wrong in the app, Sentry receives an error report with technical details about the error, on servers in the EU. We don't include your name or email address.
- Cloudflare (visitor statistics): we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many visitors the site and app get and on what kind of device. It works without cookies and without profiles: individual visitors can't be traced.
- Parts shops (such as Winparts): only if you click a parts link yourself. That link may contain a partner code through which we receive a small commission, you pay nothing extra as a result, and no personal data is shared.
- Google Ads: we measure whether a visit from a Google ad leads to a sign-up, via Google's advertising cookie. This isn't done by name, we don't see individual visitors, only whether an ad works.
Cookies
We use functional storage (a session cookie to keep you logged in and your theme preference) and, on both the website and in the app, a Google Ads advertising cookie (see above). No other tracking cookies. On your first visit we ask via a banner for consent for the advertising cookie; without consent it isn't placed. Your choice applies to both datwordtduur.nl and app.datwordtduur.nl (one cookie on the shared domain) and is kept for about a year. Changed your mind? How long we keep data
As long as your account exists. Want your account and all related data deleted? Email [email protected].
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict the processing of, object to and port your data. Email us and we'll arrange it. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
Security
All traffic between you and the app is encrypted (HTTPS). We only store passwords hashed, and access to data is limited to what's needed to run the service.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update the date at the top. For major changes we'll let you know in the app.
